Gellért Hill

In Buda, on the west bank of the Danube River, we find a hill, which is actually (being only 235 m high) is not truly a mountain and which was named after Bishop Saint Gellért. Not a lot of world cities have a nature reserve "mountain” in their centre, deep in it with healing spring water that is used at three baths at its foot: the county's most elegant bath, health spa and hotel, the Gellért, and two other baths from Turkish times, the Rudas and the Rác Bath. The most famous cavern of the Gellért Mountain is the Saint Stephen Cave, which today gives home to the Rock-chapel of the Pálos Order. A separate part of the hill is the water reserve of the Sánc Street. The park of the Gellért Mountain offers a pleasant walk and we may also find a playground here. On the top of the hill is the Citadella (citadel) with the Statue of Liberty, while at the bridge-head (end) of the Elisabeth Bridge we can see the Statue of (Bishop) Saint Gellért.
