Saint Stephen Park

This small piece of green territory can be found to the north of the Margaret Bridge, between the Danube River and Hollán Ern? Street. This district was developed in the 1930s, with a park established at the place of a former parquetry factory and surrounded by Bauhaus-styled houses. From here, there is a wonderful view of Buda. This was the first square of Budapest which was designed in such a way, to match the houses to square. Special plants, pools, playgrounds and sport tracks can also be found here. During the time of the Jewish persecutions, the area was known as the "national ghetto”, to where the Jews were housed together by diplomats who wanted to help. In the park you may find the memorial stone of Giorgio Perlasca, a philanthropist Italian civilian saving many hundreds of the persecuted Jews, as well as the remarkable statue of György Lukács, the famous philosopher and aesthete.
